Birthday Celebration Challenges

Are you having fun at our Birthday Celebration?  As part of our birthday celebration we have 5 fun challenges for you.  These are the same challenges that are posted over at our Facebook group Scrapping Everyday Miracles Chit Chat... so there are only 5 challenges total for the weekend.

Here they are
Challenge #1-"Oops, I never did it" Challenge:  Go to SEM and choose a challenge to complete that you haven't completed yet   Have you completed all or most of our challenges well then we have a twist on the above challenge for you *"Oops, I did it again!" Challenge: Go to SEM and choose a challenge to complete that you've already done and repeat the challenge, but this time make a companion page for it.  (If you've already done a two-page layout for each challenge we've offered, then create a new page using different photos.)

Challenge #2-Since today is the last day of May, I thought a "Last day of May flowers" challenge is called for. Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to create any sort of project as long as it incorporates flowers in some way.

Challenge #3-"Happy Happy Happy Birthday" Challenge:  Since we are celebrating our first birthday... How could we not have a birthday challenge.  Create a layout that features a birthday... it can be your birthday.. your child's birthday or even your Great Uncle Ernie's birthday!

Challenge #4-"Summer Layout" Challenge:  All you gotta do is create a summer layout - can be anything to do with summer at all - there are so many different blessings from God in the various seasons. I love the warmth of the sun, longer days, lots of water fun and just the relaxing joys of summer.

Challenge #5-"Card" Challenge:  Since we are celebrating one year at SEM I would like you to create a card with a number 1 on it.

For every challenge you complete you get an entry to win your choice of  a custom Subway Sign from Sandbox House.  Here are just a couple of the wonderful signs you will find in the store...

Please link up your projects by Monday night 11:59pm PST... when linking here please put your name followed by the number challenge you completed.  So for example if  I complete Challenge #5- Birthdays I would write Nicole Brenna5.

Thank you and I cant wait to see what you create...

Scrap It Girl aka Kimberly Congdon is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin and started in 2008.  It started out really small, with only one goal which was to only teach scrapbooking to local girls.    I now have a mini shop set up in my home along with a classroom that seats 20.  I teach scrapbooking, cards, altered art, kids classes, cricut classes, and holiday décor.  I  hold 3-5 classes per week.  I also host crops, girl scout classes, teach at local schools, museums, my local Hobby Lobby & Michael’s Craft store.    I  offer monthly challenges on my blog where you will also find great scrapbooking inspiration. Most of my business is done in person and in my area but I sell scrapbooking and craft supplies to online customers so if you are looking for something dont hesitate to contact me.  You can find me both on my  blog http://www.scrapitgirl.net/ and on facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scrap-It-Girl/131556336922845

Well, have you dreamed of trning your hobby into a business, but are just lost on WHAT to do?  Have you decided I want to do “THAT”, but can’t seem to make it happen?  Do you feel it is time to make a change, but you find yourself a bit hesitant because of the unknown?  I understand the hesitancy of change. It is the one thing that humans do not do well with (for the most part).  You are afraid of the unknown – and many times you rather stay in the uncomfortable than to move towards the “THING” that makes your heart come alive.  Are you ready to leap out of fear’s skin while choosing to intentionally complete the goals you have set out to do?If so, the Creative Biz Tool-Kit is for you!
The Creative Biz Tool-Kit isis made up of 4 weeks of short daily lessons available to you in a unique online classroom AND 2 phone calls a week.  For more information check out http://www.nanacampana.com/creativebiz/

Technique tutorial – interactive flap

Hello friends! Einat here with a fun easy tutorial on how to add interest, surprise and a lot of fun to your layouts. Interactive design in scrapbooking is when you add something that moves to your layout. If it has to be opened, pulled, turned or pushed, it's interactive! Today I'll show you how to add a flap to your layout.

1.       To create the flap you'll need one 4" by 6" photo and two smaller photos. The flap is great for creating more space on your layout there by enabling you to add more photos as well as hiding photos which are not so perfect but you still want to use.
2.       Take a 4" by 12" piece of double sided cardstock and fold in half.

3. Adhere the flap to your layout by putting glue only on the bottom part of the flap.

4.       Adhere the large photo on the outside flap.

5.       Adhere the two smaller photos to the inside of the flap.

6.       Add embellishments, title and your interactive layout is ready!
I'd love to see how you use the technique on a project...leave me a comment with a link to your project photo or you can share it on Scrapping Everyday Miracles Chit Chat Facebook Group... if you aren't a member yet head on over so you don't miss out on the fun.... just click on the link above and then click Ask to Join Group...we will approve you in no time!!!!!

thanks for stopping by!!

May Sketch Challenge

Hi it is Charis! Are you ready to get your sketch on??
I found this great sketch on Pagemaps & thought it would be fun to see what everyone could come up with.

My hubby is a Chef by profession but his hobby is woodworking. Since May is his birthday month, I thought I would honor him by adding this
Scrap Twist: USE WOOD ON YOUR LAYOUT!
Give it a try! See what comes of it!!

Can't wait to see your results!

Design Team members Nicole, Dolores & Einat made some gorgeous layouts! Dolores used a butterfly from My Minds Eye & Einat used a wooden dress form on her layout. They were used so well that I had a hard time spotting them! Nicole used a mini wooden clothes pin.   I used a piece of wood leftover from a scrap of something that my hubby made. I turned it into a "ribbon" of sorts & it is tucked under the pocket filled with my daughters curls.

Also, don't forget to stop by our Facebook Group & chit chat with us!!

You have until May 31st to link up your layouts  so we can see what you come up with!! Have fun!

You could win  a $ 15 gift certificate from  Seals, Tags and Stuff . . .  Mari is also offering a 15% off discount for our readers in the month of May with the coupon code SCRAPPING15

Mamaw's Girls

Hello!! Amanda here as your guest designer for the month of May. I am beyond honored and blessed to be here with you this month.

I love that this month SEM is taking time to focus on mothers and the wonderful job that God has given to each of us, in bringing our children to Him, and teaching them about His word and then in turn being taught by them, and the wonderful light children bring to the lives of their mothers.

For my layout for this challenge, I wanted to focus on the relationship MY mother has with my two daughters. They are like three peas in a pod. Our oldest came into this world during a very difficult time for my mother, there were some hard issues going on with my younger brother, and my mother was taking it hard. Then came little miss, and she brought a light back into my mother's heart that I can't even describe.

Then two years later our second daughter was born, at the time my grandmother was very sick, and my mother was also having a really hard time dealing with seeing her mother that way. She passes away about 6 months later, and it was so hard for all of us. My grandmother was truly the glue that held alot of my family together, and there were some very trying times....but the light in this was seeing my youngest and how much she resembled my grandma, seeing little smiles or certain giggles, and then hearing my oldest, who was 2 at this time, share stories of Jesus talking to her...telling her that her "Gigi" was ok, that she was with him, no longer hurting or sad. While this was at times heartbreaking, it brought such a joy and renewal of faith into my family.

My mother later started attending church with us, committed herself to being a true child of Christ. My dad was baptized, and so many wonderful blessings that God gave us during these hard times. His love is forever faithful and everlasting. I am so thankful that my girls, as young as they were, answered His call to be witness to my family of his love and grace.

Ever since they were born my daughters have shared this amazing bond with my mother, I am so grateful to the Lord that they have that. So I wanted to focus on that for my part of the challenge...to show the love and joy that radiated off of each of them every time they are together.

I would also like to share another layout of my mother and girls, this one too, just shows the joy they have for each other. Its so vivid to me in every photo I take of them together, it bring tears of joy to my eyes, and words of thanks and praise to my lips.

Thank you so much for having me as your GD for this month, I am always so blessed and encouraged by the amazing women that are a part of this team, and all of you. God is so good!

Extra Special Challenge for the Month of May...

This month at SEM our theme will be Mothers...This month we have a very special bonus challenge in addition to our main challenge and sketch challenge... While the other two are for you this one is special because it is for your kids or grandkids or neighbor kids... any kids! It doesnt matter how old they are they can enter to win (even design team member's kids!) We would like them to create any kind of art for or about their mom or grandmother. They can create a card, scrapbook page, drawing, painting, jewelry, or anything else they would like.

My daughter asked me while I was creating my DT layout for the main challenge why she didnt have a challenge... She wanted to make a layout about her mom too... I said sure she could and I would even create a challenge for other kids to join in... Here is the layout she created....To say the least I have a very proud 4 year old...

All you gotta do is take a picture of the children's  project and link it up by May 31st... We will randomly choose 1, 2 or 3 winners depending on the number of participants to win a fun kids prize pack and have their work displayed on the blog!!!!!

Monday's Heart

Mother's Day was yesterday here in the US - a day of celebrating mom, or maybe a day for mom to slip away and rest without her normal load to take care of!  :)  I hope you had a wonderful day and feel refreshed and ready to get back into your schedule.

But what if you didn't have a good Mother's Day because of whatever is apart of your life right now?  What if you are one of the ones that want to be a Mother, but you're not yet?  Or maybe your family has been pulled apart?  Or maybe someone is sick or you don't have the money to do anything and your scared?  Or maybe...  What do you do?  How do you rise above your current situation and see how much God loves you?  How do you choose today to walk in victory?

Do you remember the hymn, Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me, bless His Holy Name?  You begin to say/sing that over and over.  What if you don't believe the words you are saying?  Just say them and as you begin to speak God's truth with your mouth - as you declare - your mind/spirit/soul will begin to line up with the truths you are proclaiming!

Will this change what your circumstances are right now?  Maybe!  The power of life and death are in the tongue we are told in God's word - so maybe your words have been bringing death into your situation.  Maybe by refocusing your eyes on God, He will be able to work in your situation.  Or maybe you just have to continue to believe that God hears your prayers and will work everything out to your good - in time.

I created this layout last year (for a challenge here at SEM) when things were difficult for us - the journaling reads:  Everyday I am reminded that God is good.  I see His miracles all around me and I am thankful.  Sometimes they are hard to see because I wanted to see something different.  But, the miracles are there.  We always have enough food.  Our little one is still alive.  Our baby has a perfect heart.  We still live in the home we built.  We have transportation.  We have electric.  We are together. We are blessed.  We are called!  Remember!

Choose today to bless the Lord and rest in His arms; He is more than able to care for you - if you let Him.  If you would like to share your heart with us here at Scrapping Everyday Miracles, come join us at our Facebook page we have a private group set up to really talk.  And don't forget to document your mother for our challenger here for a chance at our prize and a GDT spot.  Blessing on you!

May Guest Designer

Hi it is Nicole and I am excited to announce our Guest Designer for May... Amanda Johnson

Hi! My name is Amanda Johnson. I live in a small town in southern Indiana. I have a wonderful husband, Derek, who I have been married to for almost 9 years now. We were high school sweethearts, and we got married a month after I graduated from high school. We now have 2 beautiful daughters, Emma who is 4, and Katlyn who is 3, and another little blessing on the way this fall. We have been blessed enough for Derek to have a good, steady job which allows me to be able to stay home with the girls, God knew I would be lost this fall when they both went off to school, so he gave me a new little bundle to occupy the days! :)
I started scrapping in 2007. Emma was just a few months old and I wanted to be able to have memories to go with all of the pictures. I have so many pictures from when I was younger that no one remembers the story behind, I didn't want that to happen to our girls.
God is doing so much in life, everyday. He has blessed me obviously with a wonderful family that I love more than I can even express, but has also given 2 incredible close friends who are like my sisters now, He has given us a wonderful church family, and I feel like He is right now calling me for something, I haven't quite figured out what that is yet, but I am so excited to see what He has in store for me.

You can visit Amanda on her blog at http://asjmade.blogspot.com/
Amanda will also be sharing her challenge layout and inspiration in her guest designer post Thurs.  Here are some of our favorite projects that Amanda has created.
