Restore! Praise Post

As the New Year approaches, some of us are already setting  new goals/resolutions. The most common goals are to 1. Lose weight, 2. Get Fit, 3. Better Job, 4. take up or restart a new Hobby. These are all great resolutions I have to say I see 3 of my own goals posted. Most of us start our resolutions but because of life's unexpected changes we are unable to complete our goals.
Well I have decided a really easy goal (commitment) for myself, and I would love for you to join me in that goal. For the past 2 years I have chosen a word to I want to say be encouraged by. In 2011 my word was GROW, and that year I rededicated my life to the God. In doing so I was able to see how God's hand in my growth. In 2012 my word was STRONG this for me was a difficult word, but I knew that my God would give me the strength to overcome any obstacles that may come and believe me 2012 was not an easy year for my family and I. With only my income to support the family, there were many times I wondered how much more must I endure, but all the while God gave me strength. I would be reminded of my word and the verse from Psalm 31:24 So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD! I have chosen my word it's RESTORE, you see I want to allow God remove all the layers that bind my heart, my mind and my spirit. I want Him to continue to molding me, because I know that HE is not yet finished with me. I want to continue growing, continue gaining strength and want to be Restored! Oh I know it's not going to be easy, because it means that He will break down the walls, but I know that in the end of the restoration process there will be a joy that will be unimaginable. There will be a testimony as to what the Lord has done in my life. So today I ask you to make a commitment, not so much a goal choose a word that will encourage you daily through out the year. Maybe you can create a project to encourage you make it visible. Remember that the Lord our God is your Strength. God Bless you all, and may this coming year (2013) bring you the desires of your heart.

This is so cool I just have to share...

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas... Today I have something fun to share that we did in our house this Christmas.  We captured a picture of Santa... wanna see it...

That is our tree and our house... You take a picture of your tree with the presents under it and then upload it to the site Capture the Magic at http://www.capturethemagic.com/MagicalBeliefs.aspx
then you have several Santa\s to choose from and they can be resized and edited to fit your picture.  You get to download your final picture in just a couple of minutes to you computer. You get 4 different pictures for $10 so I used two and then let my sister make two for her kids.  It is well worth the price!!!!!! My daughter set a trap with the camera to catch the photo which really amounted to a string tied to the fireplace attached to a spoon and the camera.  I took the download and copied it to the camera card so when she woke the next morning she checked the camera and there it was a picture of Santa.  We then printed out several copies of the photo.  It isnt to late for you to do it... many of you will have pictures of your Christmas trees which you can upload to the site and how surprised will your kids be when you show them that you went to print the pictures and found this picture.  Or you can just keep it in mind for next year.  I can promise you your kids will love it!

Technique Tutorial: Some Punch-y Inspiration!!

Cara here to share some fun techniques all created with punches. As our Sketch Challenge (brought to you by Sherri) this month wants you to incorporate a punch in some way, I thought I'd share some (hopefully) new ideas to spark your creativity!! (many of these ideas I got from Pinterest or blogs I follow)

I created TWELVE tags to showcase the techniques that you can easily apply to your projects...

1) Make some little mini tags out of a border punch (I also used this same border punch along the bottom of the tag).
2) Make clouds out of a small circle punch (see photos below for specifics).

To create the clouds:
First I punched out a cloud pattern with the 1/2" circle punch--you will also need to use some smaller detail scissors to cut into the paper a bit in order to be able to use the circle punch correctly.

Second, I lined the back with white cardstock. Then used foam tape to mount onto my base tag.

These were the punches I used:
*1/2 inch circle punch

3) Punch out snowflakes (or stars or hearts) on a piece of paper, then use foam tape to layer this piece over small pieces of contrasting patterned paper...you can even add bling to create more dimension.
4) Use alphabet punches to punch out a word (I cheated & used my Cricut here), then use foam tape to layer this piece over a contrasting patterned paper.

This was the punch I used for the snowflake tag:

5) Create trees with circle punches and add trunk and branches with a fine-tipped marker. Create grass with a bracket border punch.
6) Create a layered border punch background. I used the bracket border punch here...but any border punch would work (the lace edge ones look really great too!).

These were the punches I used:
*1.25" circle punch
*1" sunburst circle punch

7) Create a layered, scalloped background using a circle punch.
8) Make an umbrella with a circle punch and some scallop-edge scissors.

These were the punches (and scissors) I used:
*1" circle punch (for scalloped border)
*2" circle punch (for umbrella)

9) Create quilted stars by using a star punch and patterned paper scraps.
10) Create a 3-D circle shadow box effect using a circle punch on a piece of paper, then use foam tape to layer this piece over small pieces of contrasting patterned paper. I made confetti with a mini hole punch...stamped a saying (if using on a layout, you could also journal here)...and used a punched star...all to create my shadow box effect.

These were the punches I used:
**1.25" circle punch

11) Create a 3-D circle rim by first punching out a larger circle, then carefully lining up a smaller circle punch inside to punch out the middle. I then created a sun by cutting out strips of coordinating yellow & orange patterned paper.
12) Create an owl using an index tab punch (for the head),  a scalloped circle punch (for the body & wings), 2 small circle punches (for the eyes)--I used a 1/2" circle punch & a regular hole punch (the old-school squeeze type from office supply store), and a small flower punch (for the feet).

These were the punches I used for the circle rim on the Sunshine tag:
*1.5" circle punch
*1.75" circle punch

These were the punches I used on the Owl tag:
*1.75" scalloped circle punch
*1/2 inch circle punch

Hope you enjoyed these fun techniques...
Happy Punching!!!

Heartfelt Inspiration

Hi there, Marjolaine here with this month's heartfelt inspiration. Last Friday I had the awesome pleasure of meeting one of my fellow design team members while visiting her home province of Manitoba Canada. It's a place I go once a year for one day and I have to admit that it hasn't been the most exciting trip in the past and I don't usually get excited about going back...until now. This time I got to share a piece of cheesecake with one of my new on-line friends, Sherri Funk, and I can't wait to go back next year so we can do some scrapping together! I have been getting to know Sherri  because of the design team here at SEM and what a blessing to have met her in real life! And it would be so awesome to meet everyone on the team, but I don't think that trips to Israel and Africa are going to happen anytime soon for me!

One of the things we talked about was how sometimes we feel closer to our on-line friends than our "real friends". I've been thinking about this a lot the last few days and have wondered why. Perhaps with Sherri and others like her it is because we share the same faith and the same passion for scrapbooking. They even understand my desire to combine those two things together. It's not that I don't have friends where I live, but I'm so amazed at the friendships I've made with people all over the world through the Internet. I've also been able to re-connect with girlfriends from my childhood, which has been a huge blessing.  Yes there are lots of dangers on the Internet, but for me it has been mostly blessings and I am very thankful for old friendships as well as new ones. It is such an honor to be part of this design team...to be part of a group that listens to each other and prays for one another...it's truly a special thing!

So my question is...does anyone want to go out for cheesecake?!!

December's Main Challenge #23-Joy to the World!

December Challenge #23 : Joy to the World!

Tracey here with December’s Challenge. God wants his children to have joy.The scriptures tell us this over and over. This month’s challenge theme is to scrap where you find joy in this holiday season.

The scrap twist is to include glimmer and/or sparkle on your layout.
Mists, glitter and stickles are some ideas. Make it sparkle for the season!

Psalm 32:11 Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

There are so many ways to experience God’s joy in this holiday season! I confess that I love everything Christmas! I find beauty in the carols, magic in the lights and peace in the falling snow. Every year my kids and I make cocoa and put on our jammies to drive around and admire the houses all lit up so beautifully! I am so thankful to my God for the blessings of family, friends and children. The highlight of my Christmas is the Christmas Eve service at my church. It’s a time to reflect on the birth of my savior and refocus on the reason for the season.

So what brings you joy? Is it special traditions? Decorating the tree? Baking cookies with the kids? Time spent with family and friends? We can’t wait to see!
Here are the Joy-filled creations of our Design Team:
