So Cool I Just Had To Share

Good morning, Sherri here to share with you a technique I discovered last week that I thought was "so cool, I just had to share".  Coffee Filter Ruffles.  You can see the link that I first discovered here.  I was so inspired by it, that I just had to give it a try right away so I could share it with today.

These are the images that got me so excited.
Cut the centre out of a few stacked coffee filters

To create your own ruffles follow these easy steps.  Grab a few coffee filters, and cut out the centre.  I'm saving my centres to use on another craft someday.  So I had to give it a try for myself.  I thought the ruffle layers were a little large though, so I cut them in half, both lengthwise and widthwise.

I then grabbed a handful of Studio Calico Mr. Huey's
and began dying the ruffles one at a time.

End result looked like this.  I did end up adding an extra shade of green.

You'll notice that the coverage is a little splotchy in some areas.
I decided not to worry about it, but just to go with the flow.

Using double sided tape I covered the bottom, front of the card and began layering.
I snipped off the parts of the ruffles that were over hanging.
To finish it off, I simply added a couple little embellishments,
and voila, a happy little card to add to my stash.

Have you ever seen a tip/technique or any idea that got you so excited you had to try it right away.  If so, link us up we'd love to see what inspires you.

Praise Post-Trusting the Lord!

Many of you have chosen a word to focus on this coming year (or last) & are choosing to make that word your focus through the coming months. I didn't do that exactly, but it got me to thinking...if I had to choose a word based on what God's been teaching me lately, what would it be? It didn't take me long to realize that where God's working in my life is on TRUST. Trusting Him in all things and trusting Him completely.

Let me start by admitting straight up that I'm a bit of a control freak. I want things to be the way I like  them & the way I'm comfortable with...I like knowing that things will happen when they're supposed to...I like being in charge because then I know things will get done and get done right.  Well in the past couple years God has really been working on my heart in this area...forcing me to realize that I really don't control things...HE does! There have been things come up in my life that I couldn't possibly control...and I've really had to learn to give them over to Him and trust that He will work them out...that He will guide me to the right thing and work things out in His time. It's taken awhile, but I finally realized that my heart was changing when my husband lost his job right before Thanksgiving this past fall.

A few years ago finding this out would have completely turned my world upside down, but over the past few years I've had to trust God so much with some really big things, and guess what...He always proved faithful...He always took care of things in the best way possible (not always my way, but always the best way). So when this news came I was able to say..."Wow Lord, I don't know what you'll do...but I know you'll take care of this...you alone are consistently faithful and give me just what I need."  For once, I wasn't stressed or worried (and this was about a really big thing)...what a huge relief to be able to know that I didn't have to worry, that God had good plans for me & my family (Jeremiah 29:11). What an awesome thing to experience God's peace in the middle of  this "would-be/could-be" turmoil.  (And yes, God totally provided for our family...a new position for my husband with less stress, better hours, and great co-workers)

Last fall I started reading an awesome devotional called "Jesus Calling" and I really feel God speaking to me through the words and the scriptures it relates to each day. A few days ago I read this..."Trust is like a staff you can lean on, as you journey uphill with Me. If you are trusting in Me consistently, the staff will bear as much of your weight as needed." (See Proverbs 3:5-6 above) Then a few days later I read this: "My peace is the treasure of treasures, the pearl of great price. You receive this gift by trusting Me in the midst of life's storms". (see John 16:33 below)

Truly....what an awesome gift.  Thank you Lord for changing my heart, for helping me see what trusting you completely can bring in the gift of peace! Amen!

Vintage/Shabby Flower Technique

Hello from the Berkshires of Massachusetts, USA !
I would like to share with a tutorial for making a vintage/shabby style flower as seen below:

You can mix and match the layers you like,
 I used a crocheted doily,
cut a pattern out of lace,
a punched  circle from a book page,
 a paper doily,
a small paper flower and a small edging of lace.
Part of the shabiness is mixing
it up.

Here it is used on a layout:
This was inspired by a sketch from Tammy Henderson and features my daughter and my niece, my 2 favorites girls in the world. When my sister-in-law was pregnant, my daughter was worried that she wouldn't be as special to my Mother (Grammy) anymore and I could tell she was trying to hide her jealousy.

When Vivien finally arrived we drove down to see her. When Naomi saw her, she started crying with emotion and said,"I had no idea someone could be so small and so beautiful!"
God has a special design for each of us and loves equally, even if sometimes we feel others are receiving a little more of his favor at the moment.
Take heart and remember:

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Psalm 139-13-16

Heartfelt Post

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late  . . . ; for so He gives His beloved sleep. —Psalm 127:2

Good Morning... It is Nicole.... I was wondering what to share today for the Heartfelt post and I thought what have I learned this week.  I thought back a couple of days ago when  I got a phone call from my Granny in California.  She said she was reading her devotion that day and thought she should share it with my mother and me.  Here is what she read to me.  You can find it at My Daily Bread (Jan. 12, 2013) http://odb.org/2013/01/12/the-gift-of-sleep/

Sleep is essential for good health. Scientists don’t know exactly why we need it but they know what happens when we don’t get enough. We put ourselves at risk of premature aging, weight gain, and diseases ranging from colds and flu to cancer. What God accomplishes in our bodies while we drift off to dreamland is nothing short of miraculous. While we do nothing, God replenishes our energy, rebuilds and restores our cells, and reorganizes information in our brains.
The reasons for not getting enough sleep are many, and some we can’t solve, but the Bible indicates that overwork should not be one of them (Ps. 127:2). Sleep is a gift from God that we should receive with gratitude. If we’re not getting enough, we need to find out why. Are we rising early and staying up late to earn money to acquire things we don’t need? Are we involved in ministry efforts that we think no one else is capable of doing?
I’m sometimes tempted to believe that the work I do when I’m awake is more important than the work God does while I sleep. But refusing God’s gift of sleep is like telling Him that my work is more important than His.
God does not want anyone to be a slave to work. He wants us to enjoy His gift of sleep.
The love of God is my pillow,
Soft and healing and wide,
I rest my soul in its comfort,
And in its calm I abide. —Long
If we do not come apart and rest awhile, we may just plain come apart. —Havner
I had never thought of sleep as a gift from God...  We talk about everyday miracles here all the time but I never consider sleeping one of them.  Of course I know I have to sleep sometime but hearing this was a different perspective. I have thought many times I am just too busy right now for sleep... I need to study.... I just want to finish this project.... Who needs sleep, I can go without.  But with this one simple phone call from my Granny I realized just how wrong I was thinking.  I did need sleep and it was a gift and a blessing.  I also realized how often I was staying up late for no good reason. I could have finished my work earlier or studied a few days before or not watched that last tv show but it had become an excuse.  How many of you are like me?  I dont want to turn my back on a gift from God so I am going to be much more conscious about my bedtime and getting my sleep!

January's Main Challenge # 24 - Sad Moments

Hello dear friends! Svetlana here to bring you January's Main Challenge. Life is not always filled with smiles and laughter - sometimes there is time when we feel sad and our hearts are broken. But it doesn't matter how big our problems are, God is always near to lift us up and give us hope.
This month’s challenge is to scrap about a "not-so-happy" moment in your life.

The scrap twist is to include a bird on your projectTo me it is a symbol of freedom. We can choose to be free by receiving peace from the Lord into our hearts in any circumstances.

It is very easy to be thankful and see God's big and small everyday blessings when things are going smooth in our lives. But it is in the time of trouble we need Him the most.

"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

It may be just one of those days when everything seems to be so much bigger than you. Maybe it is season in your life when you need to learn some hard lessons. Or maybe it is something so big when your world seems to fall apart because that person whom you love so dearly is not near anymore... or not coming back... but take heart - there IS ALWAYS hope in Him. You can be sure of that!

While I would like us to look for blessings in the hardships, your take on this challenge shouldn't be hard. You can scrap anything you think of in this line: it can be a photo of your crying or just-a-little-bit sad child; it can be a story about a burst tire in the middle of nowhere...or you can express your feelings and preserve some special memories about a loved person
who passed away.

Here are our Design Team's projects and some heartfelt stories behind it:
(hover your mouse over each creation to see what each of us had to say about our projects)

This Christmas was bittersweet as my son, Austin, had decided to move out after graduation. This is a decsion that makes my heart ache but I trust that God is watching over him.
